MARSHALL, Minn. - The Dragons built up a large lead in the second half on Friday afternoon that carried the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team to a 72-67 win over the No. 23 ranked Hillsdale Chargers at the SMSU Classic.
The game was hosted on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State and was the second win of the season for the Dragons. The Chargers opened their season with a loss in this game.
The Dragons built a 21 point lead in the second half coming off a six point lead after the first half, 33-27. MSUM went on a 17-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half, staring on a layup by
Angie Jetvig. Her score was followed by four consecutive layups by Megan Rettke, who led the team with 17 points.

Mara Paulson added two free-throws into the mix as
Alison Nash-Gerlach tallied two on a fastbreak. After the Chargers scored for the first time in the second half, freshman
Marisa Yernatich hit a three pointer to put the Dragons up by 21. She was fed the ball by
Betsy Dickson who led the field with nine assist in the game.
Throughout the rest of the game, the Chargers chipped away at the Draogns lead, cutting it to four with 1:02 left on the clock, on two free-throws by Michelle LIndsey.
Brittany Mayclin tallied two for the Red and White on the next possesion to put MSUM up by six with 37 seconds left to play.
Nash-Gerlach hit a pair behind the charity stripe at :17 to seal the Dragons win, putting the lead at eight. The game's leading scorer, the Chargers' Janay Miller hit a three on HC's last possession but the five point deficit in two seconds could not be overcome as the Dragons picked up win number two on the season.
Rettke tallied the Dragons' first double-double of the season complimenting her 17 points with 13 rebounds in the game. Nash-Gerlach picked up 14 points, to her season total of 31. She also had eight rebounds. Jetvig also hit double figures with 13 points and had nine boards. Yernatich was 50 percent from behind the three point line, going 3-for-6.
