DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 10 University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs showed that their ranking was one to bargain with as they handed the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons their first loss in conference play, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams had good enough hitting percentages to win a match, but UMD's .356 topped MSUM's .256, outnumbering the Dragons in kills with 47 by the Bulldogs, 16 more than their opponent.

The Dragons hung with the Bulldogs in the first set, 25-22, but the momentum of the win carried over to the second as the home team ran with the points to take set two, 25-11. The Dragons couldn't recover from the blow of the second set as the Bulldogs took the match with a 25-20 win in the third.

UMD's overall record now stands a 9-3 and they are 2-0 in league play. MSUM moves to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC.

Laura Tvrdik and Heidi Lensing led the Dragons with seven kills each. Tvrdik completed the attack on seven of her nine attempts while Lensing picked up three block assists. Mary Sussenguth aided defensively with six blocks, one of which was solo.

The Dragons will bring their games back to Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse this upcoming weekend as they will host St. Cloud State and Concordia, St. Paul on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest against the reigning NCAA DII Champions will start at 4 p.m.
