MARYVILLE, Mo. - Junior
Laura Tvrdik carried the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team (5-2) on her swing on Friday evening as she had 15 kills as the Dragons topped Northwest Missouri State at the Comfort INNvitational, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19).
Tvrdik took just 20 attempts in the game and had only one error to hit .700, her highest match hitting percentage of her career. She was aided on the net by
Heidi Lensing who had 10 kills and
Leigh Splittstoesser who had 40 assists and two kills in the match.
The Dragons zoned in on their defense as they allowed only a .180 hitting percentage out of the Bearcats. Libero Ashely Pyfferoen led the team with eight digs and defensive specialist
Katy Ness dug up seven of the team's 31 digs. The team also had four total blocks which included Tvrik's two solo blocks.
"The team really came together after our win this morning," Head Coach
Tammy Blake-Kath said. "We played hard and as a team which pushed us to where we are beginning to see our potential."
MSUM will play two more matches in the Comfort INNvitational on Sat. the 5th as they will see Quincy (Kan.) and Newman (Ill.) at 12:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively.
