Dragons Start Four-Game Road Test, Travel to Northern State and Mary

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead basketball teams will begin a four-game road stand on Friday as they will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State. They will continue as they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to play Mary on Saturday. The women's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 8 p.m. each day.

WOMEN

The Dragons go into the game with an 13-5 overall record and 7-4 in league play. MSUM split their last two contests as they lost a nail-biter to Winona State, 68-65 and topped Upper Iowa, 91-67.

The Dragons were led by Meghan Rettke who notched her tenth and 11th double-doubles of the season. Alison Nash-Gerlach also contributed 16 points each night. On Saturday, nine of the Dragons' 11 team members scored, with Angie Jetvig topping the list with 20 points. Betsy Dickson also contributed 13 against the Peacocks.

NUMBERS
Three Dragons are approaching milestones in their collegiate basketball careers as two (Nash-Gerlach and Rettke) are flirting with becoming members of the 1,000 point club and another is just shy of breaking the all-time assists record at MSUM (Opheim).

Rettke recently eclipsed the No. 8 slot on the career rebounding list with 748 total, she is 28 shy of seventh place that is currently held by Assistant Coach Allison Swenson (776).

OPPONENTS
Northern State sits at 9-9 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC. Most recently, the Wolves topped St. Cloud State, 66-47. Krista Rabenberg grabbed her first double double of the year against SCSU with a 23-point (career-high) 15-rebound (career-high) performance. She also notched five blocks on the night.

The Mary Marauders have pieced together two wins in the past week as they topped both St. Cloud State, 78-61 and conference leading Concordia-St. Paul, 67-66. Team scoring leader, Shaunna Knife drilled the game-winning three-point basket with 1.6 seconds left in the game to lift the Marauders to a 67-66 upset victory over then-20th-ranked and Northern Sun-leading Concordia University-St. Paul. The Marauders are 3-8 in league play and are 7-11 overall.


MEN
The Dragons men's basketball team suffered two losses this past weekend. Moving their overall record to 6-12 and 3-8 in league play. Dennis Williamson led the team on Friday with 21 points, a career-high, and five rebounds. He also combined with Eric Olson on Saturday to lead the team with six rebounds each. Jake Driscoll scored a game high 18 points on Saturday against the Upper Iowa Peacocks.

OPPONENTS
The Northern State Wolves' three-game winning streak was snapped last Saturday as they lost a tough battle to St. Cloud State, 66-64. The night before they topped Concordia-St. Paul, 81-60. They are 8-10 overall with a 4-7 league mark.

Mary has strung together an impressive record of 11-7 after opening the year with a loss at Alex Nemzek Hall to the Dragons. They picked up two wins in league play last weekend to increase their NSIC mark to 7-4. They topped both St. Cloud State, 76-60 and Concordia-St. Paul, 75-68.
