Dragons Wrestling Opens League Duals Wednesday Against Marauders

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling teams will open 2010 play and NSIC duals on Wednesday, Jan. 6, as they host the University of Mary Maruaders at 7 p.m. The dual will be held at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse on MSUM's campus.

The Dragons, currently 2-4, opened the 2009-10 season with a sweep of Morningside (Iowa) and Sioux Falls (S.D.) before suffering four losses in duals, three of which came against NCAA DI institutions. The team is ranked No. 5 in most recent Northern Sun/North Region rankings, published Jan. 4.

Live streaming will be available through the NSIC and Penn Atlantic by clicking here.

Three Dragons have posted more than 10 wins this season including Corey Ulmer (13-4  at 125), Evan Forde (12-4 at 133), Brady Schneeberger (11-6 at 141) and Tim Johnson (10-4 at HWT).

Ulmer is ranked fourth in the North Region but boasts the most wins in the weight class among the NSIC. Forde, ranked fourth in the region, took first at the Cobber Open and fifth place at the Dragon Open.

Schneeberger took second and the Cobber Open, fourth at the Bison Open and fifth at the Dragon Open and has been ranked fifth in the conference. Johnson, the highest ranking for a Dragon at third in the region, has made it into the top-four in each open that he wrestled in this year.

The No. 7 ranked Marauders, after wrestling in three open tournaments to start the season, came out strong against the Jamestown Jimmies on December 9th and fought a good battle, but came out just little short. The final in the duel was a 12-22 loss. They are 0-1 overall this season in duals. The team is led by Dusty Vliem at 197 pounds, as he finished second at the Cobber Open.
