MOORHEAD, Minn. - The No. 1 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs lived up to their top national ranking (D2Football.com) as they picked up an NSIC Northern Division win over the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons on Saturday at Alex Nemzek Stadium, 56-7.
The Bulldogs move to a perfect 5-0, with a 4-0 league tally, while the Dragons drop below .500 with a 2-3 overall record and are an even 2-2 in the Conference.
UMD scored just one minute and 19 seconds into the game to go up 7-0. Isaac Odim scored on a 22-yard bass from Chase Vogler.
Vogler put the game away with a two-yard run at the 9:59 mark in the first quarter that was just enough for the win. Vogler rushed for 43 of UMD's 389 rushing yards. He was also 6-for-9 for 95 yards and had one touchdown from gun.
After the Bulldogs went up 28-0, the Dragons put together a two-play 62-yard touchdown as
Kevin Koch (Elmhurst, Ill.) connected with
Nick Scharpf (Horicon, Wis.) for a 69-yard catch to put MSUM on the board.
Wes Kramer chipped in the extra kick.
The Bulldogs had seven touchdowns in the game, with the offense putting up 606 total yards. Odim ended the game with five touchdowns, four coming on the ground.
The Dragons had 344 total yards on offense, with 235 coming in the air. The Dragons had 109 yards on the ground. Koch finished the game going 16-for-32 for 235 yards, one touchdown.
Bryson Pluta (Winnipeg, MAN) took the final two snaps for hte Dragons attempting two throws with one interception.
The Dragons offense was led by Sharpf who ended the day with 174 yards receiving with one touchdown.
Brett McWilliams (Roscoe, Ill.) rushed 13 times in the game for 86 yards.
MSU Moorhead will return to the field in Marshall, Minn. on Oct. 9 as they will go head-to-head with the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs at 6 p.m.
