MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon football program (2-3, 2-2 NSIC) will travel to Marshall, Minn., to face the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (2-3, 1-3 NSIC) in league action on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. The teams will face at the Regional Events Center on SMSU's campus.
WEEK SIX
The Dragons, will try to recoup after their lass int week five as they will again go on the road before coming home for two consecutive weeks. The Dragons last faced SMSU on Nov. 7 in 2009 when the Mustangs took the game on their home field, 52-10. The Dragons lead the all-time series 27-14.
WEEK FIVE RECAP
The No. 1 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs lived up to their top national ranking (D2Football.com) as they picked up an NSIC Northern Division win over the Dragons on
Saturday at MSUM, 56-7. After the Bulldogs went up 28-0, the Dragons put together a two-play 62-yard touchdown as
Kevin Koch (Elmhurst, Ill.) connected with
Nick Scharpf (Horicon, Wis.) for a 69-yard catch to put MSUM on the board.
Wes Kramer chipped in the extra kick.
The Dragons had 344 total yards on offense, with 235 coming in the air. The Dragons had 109 yards on the ground. Koch finished the game going 16-for-32 for 235 yards, one touchdown.
Bryson Pluta (Winnipeg, MAN) took the final two snaps for the Dragons attempting two throws with one interception. The Dragons offense was led by Sharpf who ended the day with 174 yards receiving with one touchdown.
Brett McWilliams (Roscoe, Ill.) rushed 13 times in the game for 86 yards.
THE OPPOSITE JERSEY…Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs
SMSU (2-3, 1-3 NSIC) will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday. After beginning the season 2-0, the Mustangs have dropped three straight games against upper division teams in the NSIC. The Mustangs have won the past two meetings between the teams.
Last week, sophomore running back Warren Matthews (5-9, 200, Minneapolis) rushed for a team-high 53 yards and one touchdown on nine carries and also caught four passes for a career-high 83 yards and one
touchdown in SMSU's 38-20 loss to Wayne State.
