Dragons Volleyball Digs For the Cure; Begins Four-Game Homestand

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons (7-8, 3-4 NSIC) return to Nemzek Fieldhouse for a four-game homestand beginning  Friday, as they will host the University of Mary (N.D.) at 7 p.m. They will continue action on Saturday against Northern State (S.D.) at 4 p.m.

MSU Moorhead comes off a huge upset win over the No. 13 Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks. In the win, Ashley Feldman led the team with 15 kills and four block assists, and also carefully placed a service ace to win the fifth set, and the match, for the Dragons, 16-14.

This win came after a loss to the No. 3 Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs, 3-0. Heidi Lensing led the team both ways with 18 kills and 16 digs on the weekend.

MSUM'S DIG FOR THE CURE - October 9, 4 p.m.
The program that started all athletics fundraisers in the month of October (2003), Dig for the Cure nationally has raised over $300,000 the last five years for cancer research, thanks in large part to the student-athletes and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.  Over 180 Volleyball Programs are participating in 2010.

The Dragons will be selling t-shirts for $10 at Friday and Saturday's matches, with all proceeds going to hotel stays for cancer patients and their families at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott; the official hotel sponsor of Dragon Volleyball.

U-Mary Marauders
The Marauders, thus far this season, are one of three winless teams in league games, going 0-7 in the NSIC. They are 4-12 overall, under first year Head Coach Steve Novacek.

Amanda Hennessy is leading the team with a total of 157 kills this season, averaging 2.85 per set.  Emily Turkowski is two assists shy of 500 on the season as she averaged 9.22 per set. On defense, the Marauders are led by Henessy and Kendra Hobbs, who have 154 and 156 digs each, respectively.

Northern State Wolves
The Wolves are also winless in league play as they  have not come up with a win in seven NSIC matches. They have had a .500 year overall as they went 8-1 in non-conference play, with an 8-8 overall tally.

NSU topped the Dragons earlier this year at the Dragon Classic on Sept. 10, in a four set match.

The Wolves are led by Amber Bloom as she averages 3.00 kills per set, hitting .287 on the year. She is set-up primarily by Megan Gilbraith who has 382 assists on the season. Defensively, the Wolves have three players that have tallied over 150 digs, but on the net are led by Paula Martins iwth 44 blocks this year.
