MOORHEAD, Minn. – A season high hitting percentage was notched in the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball's 3-0 win over the Mary Marauders as the Dragons hit .404 in the match (25-11, 25,-14, 25-18).
The Dragons move to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in league play while they hold the Marauders winless in the Conference while their overall record moves to 4-13.
The team went 44-for-89 on the attack, with only eight errors. They held the Marauders to a .109 hitting percentage, as the Dragons had nine block assists in the match and dug up 44 attacks.
MSUM moved quickly in the first set with 12 kills in 19 attempts for a .632 attack percentage. Senior
Laura Tvrdik (Farwell, Minn.) led the team in the first set with six kills, a number she matched in the second set as she led the team on the night with 16.
Leigh Splittstoesser (Stewartville, Minn.) had 42 assists, a season high in three sets for the senior, while the team had 44 total assists, setting up each of their 44 kills.
Heidi Lensing (Belgrade, Minn.) led the team on defense as she had 12 digs and had nine kills.
Ashley Pyfferoen (Byron, Minn.) had eight kills and 10 digs.
The Dragons will host Northern State at 4 p.m. on Oct. 9 at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse for the team's Dig for the Cure event. The team is selling t-shirts for $10, with all of the proceeds going towards hotel stays for cancer patients and their families during treatment periods.
