PHOENIX – Fourteen three pointers were drained from long-range by the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon women's basketball team to tie the single game record for three pointers made in the team's win over the Queens Knights (N.Y.), 88-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Crowne Plaza Tournament.

Marisa Yernatich and Angie Jetvig led the team in the charge from behind the arc as they combined for nine three-pointers, scoring 43 of the team's 88 points in the game. The Dragons hit 14 three-pointers in two other games in the history of the program, the most recent being last year's contest against Concordia (Moorhead, Minn.) on Nov. 14.

Yernatich started the game off with a three pointer which led to an 18-2 run for the Dragons. In the run, Yernatich had two three-pointers and Jetvig had one.

The Knights cut the lead to six at the ten-minute mark in the first half, 14-20, but it took the Dragons two free-throws by Megan Strese that led to eight more points and a double-figure lead, that was carried into halftime. The Dragons led 40-29 at the break.

MSUM went up by twenty in the first four minutes in the second half and did not give up that margin of the lead for the rest of the game.

Jetvig finished the game with 22 points, going 9-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from behind the arc. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists and one block. Yernatich had 21 points, going 5-of-7 from long-range. She had three rebounds and two assists.

Strese was key for the Dragons on defense as she had nine defensive boards, of her 15 total in the game. She also scored seven points. The Dragons out rebounded the Knights 55-19 in the game.

The Dragons split their opening two games of the season, and will return to Moorhead to face Mayville State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse for their home opener.
