MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon women found their offensive rhythm in a 98-72 pounding of Mayville State (N.D.) as
Angie Jetvig posted career highs in both rebounds (16) and points (25).
The first half began with concern as the Comets took a one-point lead after the first eight minutes. The Dragons quickly took a 15-14 lead with 11:25 to play before intermission and never looked back, scoring nearly fifty points that half.
Jetvig's route to career highs began with a first half double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds, helping the Dragons run the Comets up to an 18 point lead at halftime. The Dragons led 49-31 at halftime.
The second half looked very familiar to the first as the Dragons posted another 49 points totaling 98, but allowed the Comets to add 41. Eli Cosume-Gonzalez led the Comets with 23 points scoring 15 in the second half.
Other notables for the Dragons were
Marisa Yernatich who put up 10 points,
Katey Wrobel who posted 14 points and
Jenna Van Dyke who tallied 12 points.
Kaycee Charette struggled shooting, but helped the Dragon offense by dishing 6 assists with only one turnover.
Haley Thomforde and
Abby Reiter also posted four assists each.
The Dragons shot 45.2 percent from the floor against the Comets, while out-rebounding them 52-27.
The blowout moves the Dragon women to 2-1 one the season and 1-0 on their home floor. The next contest for the women will be their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game on Dec. 3 on the road against the Beavers from Bemidji State University (Minn.).
