NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons Swimming and Diving team continued its long road trip after dispatching St. Benedict by 57 points with a two contests against St. Olaf and Carleton College Friday night. The Dragons handled Carleton 103-68 but could not capture enough points to overtake St. Olaf who tallied 123 points on the night to defeat the Dragons.
The highlight of the night for the Dragons came when Claire Caron raced in the 100-yard IM in one of the last events for the Dragons. Caron set a personal best and new MSUM record in the event, posting a mark of 1:02.07. The previous mark was held by
Karena King in 2008 when she finished with a time of 1:03.12.
Kylie Potter also scored big for the Dragons, posting a time of 31.67 in the 50-yard breaststroke event, giving the Dragons nine points. The Dragons had a number of second places finishes, including the very first event. The Dragons finished 0:00.77 seconds behind St. Olaf in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of
Amanda Walters,
Tiara Nelson, Claire Caron and
Megan Rieland.
The diving events also aided the Dragons as
Shayna Dugger took first in both 1m diving events to give the Dragons 18 total points. The Dragons finished the night strong, taking second place in the final event when the team of
Jenna Thompson, Walters,
Angelee Hale and Rieland finished just 0:00.45 seconds behind St. Olaf to end the evening.
The Dragons move on to the second day with Carleton and St. Olaf as they compete in the individual events, beginning at 11 a.m.
