Dragon Volleyball Upsets No. 2 Bulldogs

DULUTH, Minn. - Sophomore Heidi Lensing led the MInnesota State University Moorhead Dragon volleyball team to upset the No. 2 ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Saturday in a five-set match on the road.

Lensing had 15 kills in the match, while freshman Kayla Handevidt had 13 kills. Lensing also had 10 digs and two service aces in the match. Handevidt had four block assists and five digs. Laura Tvrdik had 11 kills in the match with five blocks.

Tvrdik and Handevidt each combined with Meredith Egeland to block Bulldog attacks in the fifth set to pull ahead after the match was tied at 12 to lead 14-12. The Bulldogs had a kill to move hte score to 13-14 before Handevidt had a kill to pick up the match win for the Dragons.

The Dragons were fed the attacks by setter senior Leigh Splittstoesser who had 51 assists in the match. She also had six digs. Katy Ness had 17 digs to lead the team on defense.

MSU Moorhead will honor the Dragon seniors this coming weekend in the final regular season home matches against Winona State and Upper Iowa on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Friday's match begins at 7 p.m and Saturday's will start at 4 p.m.
