Wildcats Win Battle of the Unbeatens

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Wayne State College Wildcats (Neb.) and the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons put their unbeaten Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference records on the line Friday night at Alex Nemzek Hall.

The Wildcats brought their offense early, jumping to a quick 4-0 lead until Angie Jetvig scored three consecutive baskets to bring the Dragons within two points just over four minutes into the first half, 8-6.

The Dragons would continue to fight to stay in the game and only trailed by five with 10:44 left in the half.  The Wildcats would turn the corner early however, and quickly jumped to a 16-point lead after putting together a 7-0 run in just under two minutes.

The rest of the half belonged to the Wildcats, leading by as much as 18 points, but a three-pointer from Haley Thomforde kept the Dragons within 15 heading into the half.

Jetvig began the second half in similar fashion to the first, scoring the Dragon's first two baskets.  The Dragons would battle back to within eight with 14:11 left in the game.  Only ten points separated the teams with 9:47 left, but the Wildcats would finish the game outscoring the Dragons 21-10 for a final score of 75-54.

The Wildcats' scoring leaders were Ashley Arlen (25 points) and Mara Hjelle (15 points).  The Dragons were again led by Jetvig's 22-point performance.

The loss drops MSU Moorhead to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.  Tomorrow the Dragons face the Vikings from Augustana (S.D.) in Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
