Second Half Surge Pushes Dragon Women to Victory

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. – Dickinson State University (N.D.) came prepared for a fight when they entered Nemzek Fieldhouse Tuesday night, but the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team found the bottom of the basket in the second half to win 85-70.

The Blue Hawks quickly jumped into a 12-2 run after the Dragon's Angie Jetvig scored the first points of the game.   Eventually, they would take an eleven-point lead early in the half and held a ten-point lead with 8:42 until halftime.

The Red and White refused to roll over as Jetvig kicked off a 17-3 run by scoring twelve of the next fourteen points for the Dragons, ending the half with a slight 36-31 lead.

Despite the first half struggles, the Dragons would eventually find the bottom of the basket as they posted a solid 64.3 percent from the floor in the second half.

The Blue Hawks would battle back again to cut the Dragon's lead to three with 12:30 left on the clock, but the Dragons forced four turnovers in the next four minutes to grind the lead back up to nine.

Both Betsy Dickson and Marisa Yernatich recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds.  Jetvig and Yernatich put up a perfect 100 percent from the floor in the second half, helping Jetvig tie her career high in points with 25.

Combined, the Dragons shot 70 percent from behind the arc while out-rebounding the Blue Hawks 17-5 in the second half to take the 85-70 victory.  This win extends the Dragon's winning streak to five.

The victory over Dickinson State moves MSU Moorhead to 5-1 overall.  Their next game returns to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play as the Dragons travel to the University of Minnesota-Crookston Saturday Dec. 11.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m..
