CROOKSTON, Minn. - Seniors
Meghan Rettke and
Alison Nash-Gerlach led the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons women's basketball team to a win in their final regular season game over the University of Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles, 86-78.
Rettke chipped in her 1,000th career point, becoming the 18th member of the 1,000-Point Club at MSUM. She ended the night with 12 points and 1,002 in her career. She marked her 13th double-double of the year as she grabbed 14 rebounds.
Nash-Gerlach tied the single season record for free-throws made in a season as she went 11-11 from the charity stripe to increase her total to 160 from the line. She led the field with 27 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.
The Golden Eagles stayed with the No. 7 regionally ranked Dragons for the first half of the game, with the score at intermission was 41-39 in favor of MSUM. Nash-Gerlach scored the first nine of the Dragons 11 points, ending the first half with 13 points.
The Dragons led 46-44 with 16:32 left in the game before going on a 10-0 run to take the 12 point lead with 14:32 left to play. The run was started on a layup by
Betsy Dickson, who dished the ball to Marissa Yernatich in the team's next posession on a fast-break to increase the lead to six.
Angie Jetvig hit two jumpers in the paint while Rettke followed with a bucket to give the Dragons the 12 point lead.
The Golden Eagles cut the lead to six with just over nine minutes to play but the Dragons would come back to lead by 13 with four minutes on the clock.
Nash-Gerlach went 8-for-12 from the field while she was one of four Dragons in double-figures.
Kaycee Charette scored 13, chipping in 7 from the free-throw line. Jetvig ended the night with 14 points.
The Dragons await the rest of the conference games to finish up today before the final seeding the conference tournament is set. MSUM ends the regular season with a 18-9 overall record and a 12-8 tally in the league. UMC finishes the 2009-10 season with a 10-17 overall and 7-13 conference record.
