MOORHEAD, Minn. - Freshman
Katy Ness picked up 23 digs in the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons 3-0 win over the Sioux Falls Cougars at the Dragon Classic sponsored by the Fairfield Inn by the Marriott at Alex Nemzek Hall.
Ness picked up eight of her digs in the first set as
Kayla Handevidt led the team with four kills as the home team took set one 25-16. The Dragons had four block assists in the match as they also had 18 digs on defense.
The team's strong attacks continued in the second set as both
Ashley Feldman and
Laura Tvrdik had four kills int he set. MSU Moorhead affected Sioux Falls attacks, keeping their percentage at .038, by digging 19 balls that came over the net. The Dragons also picked up one solo block and 10 block assists. Handevidt had three assists to lead the team to the 25-18 second set win.
The Dragons tallied 14 more kills int he fourth set as they picked up their third win of the season, taking set three 25-20.
Tvrdik led the team with nine kills. Both
Heidi Lensing and Handevidt had six kills, hitting above .350 in the match.
The Dragons will host Minot State (N.D.) at 5:30 p.m. in the final game of the 2010 Dragon Classic. To view the live stats
