MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon football program will welcome their alumni for their 2010 home opener at Alex Nemzek Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 18. The game is set to kick-off at 1 p.m. where the Dragons host the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
TAILGATING
The home opener will have tailgating beginning at 11 a.m. brought to all fans by the MSUM Foundation. All are welcome to attend. This tailgating event is tobacco and alcohol free.
TICKETS
Tickets are $7, with ages 12 and under admitted for free.
THE HOME OPENER
The Dragons (0-2) host the Upper Iowa Peacocks (0-2) in their 2010 home opener at Alex Nemzek Stadium on the campus of Minnesota State University Moorhead.
The two teams, both 0-2, will be battling for their first win. The teams have seen each other twice in the history of the programs, in 2006 and 2007, with an even split on the series. The last time the two teams saw each other in action was in 2007 when the Dragons won 31-28. In the game, MSUM bolted to a 21-7 lead and used a critical defensive stop late in the fourth quarter to preserve a Homecoming victory.
WEEK TWO RECAP
The Dragons come off a conference openning loss to No. 19 Winona State, 58-3. After hold the Warriors to three points in the first quarter, but it was WSU's unanswered 27 points in the second that solidified the home win.
In the third quarter, the first points of the 2010 season were tallied for the Dragons by the foot of
Wes Kramer (Northfield, Minn.), as he kicked a 31-yard field goal to wipe the zero from the board. Kramer, in his rookie debut as the field goal kicker was 1-for-2 in the game.
Quarterback
Kevin Koch (Elmhurst, Ill.) went 14-for-29 in the game throwing for 144 yards.
Bryson Pluta (Winnipeg, MAN), coming in for the Dragons final drive, was 2-for-5, throwing for 21 yards.
Travis Davidson (Friendswood, Texas) and
Andrew Joyce (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Dragons on defense as each tallied five total tackles.
THE OPPOSITE JERSEY…Upper Iowa Peacocks
The Peacocks suffered a 62-13 loss to the No. 2 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on their home field. The Bulldogs put up seven points in the first twenty-seconds of the contest and held the momentum throughout the game.
The Peacocks scored all their points in the first half as they put up two field goals, both from the foot of Tyler Parmenter (32-yard and 26-yard), and a 6-yard touchdown as Ben Curran connected with La'Mont WIlliams that capped an 11-play, 73-yard drive.
In the first week of action, the Peacocks lost to Texas A&M Commerce, 33-10 on the road. UIU had a 10-0 halftime lead but the Lions took over in the second half scoring 33 unanswered points for the win.
