GOLDEN, Colo. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team dropped two matches on Saturday in the second day of the Oredigger Classic. The team could not match the power of the Fort Lewis SkyHawks swings on Saturday morning as the Dragons fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22). The team also fell to host Colorado School of Mines 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18).
MATCH ONE
The SkyHawks despite having less kills than the Dragons, had a higher hitting percentage that led to the win. The Dragons had 43 kills to the SkyHawks 39, but hit just .159 to FLC's .319.
Senior
Laura Tvrdik (Farwell, Minn.) and sophomore
Heidi Lensing (Belgrade, Minn.) each had 13 kills in the match.
Kayla Handevidt also picked up seven kills, three block assists and one solo block.
MATCH TWO
The Orediggers dominated the Dragons in their home tournament as they took all three sets in steady fashion to claim their third victory of the year.
Colorado Mines hit .278 in the game and held MSU Moorhead to a hitting percentage of .062 to claim the win. They had two players with 11 kills a piece, the Dragons did not have one player in double-figures for kills.
The Dragons will return home this week as they will host the Dragon Classic sponsored by the Fairfield Inn by Marriott on Sept. 10-11 at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
