MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons wrapped up their opening weekend with a non-conference contest against the Minot State University Beavers. The Beavers grabbed an early goal and added a penalty kick to leave Moorhead with a 2-0 win.
The Dragons started freshman
Victoria Hoffman as the freshman got her first taste of the 2010 season. The Beavers put pressure on the Dragons at the 17-minute mark as a shot by Jordan Kramer hit the post.
The Beavers broke through five minutes later as Tara McPartland took a pass from Jamie McFarlane all alone and scored a breakaway goal at 22:33 to put the Beavers ahead 1-0.
Hoffman tightened up defensively as she stopped the next three shots on goal from the Beavers. The Beavers struck again with only 46 seconds remaining in the first half as the Dragons were called for a foul inside the box. Lexy Kidd took the penalty kick and put it past the Dragons goalkeeper to put the Dragons up 2-0.
Both teams only managed one shot in the second half as the Beavers held on for a 2-0 win, their third shutout of the season. The Beavers improve their overall record to 3-0.
The Dragons fall to 0-2 on the season and will prepare for their first conference opponent. The Dragons will face the Augustana Vikings in a neutral site NSIC contest at St. Cloud, Minn. at 5 p.m. on Friday.
