SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Dragons left the confines of Minnesota State University Moorhead and took the the road to open up the 2011 NSIC schedule against No. 3 Augustana (S.D.) Vikings Saturday night. The Dragons jumped out to an early lead twice but could not slow the Vikings' momentum, falling by a final of 6-29.
The Dragons opened up at 125 pounds with
Corey Ulmer who took on Al Meger. Meger gained the early advantage with a takedown but Ulmer escaped with 1:10 remaining in the opening period. Ulmer chose down in the second and tied up the match with another escape.
Ulmer held his own on top in the third to force overtime. In overtime Ulmer gained the sudden victory decision by taking down Meger just five seconds into the period to take the match by a final of 4-2 to earn his team-leading 13 win on the season.
The Dragons bounced back after a 133-pound loss at 141 pounds when
Brady Schneeberger took on Jay Sherer. Sherer started out with a takedown to start the match just 59 seconds into the opening frame but wouldn't score again.
Schneeberger had a big second period, earning a takedown at the 1:06 mark and following that up with a three-point nearfall of Sherer that lasted till the end of the period. Schneeberger outlasted Sherer and finished with a 5-2 decision. The Dragons would not gain a win the rest of the way, falling 6-29.
The Dragons fall to 2-4 on the season. The Dragons move on to their first unranked opponent of the season when they take on the University of Mary at Bismarck (N.D.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
