Dugger Qualifies for Nationals as Dragons Top Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Freshman diver Shayna Dugger, of the MInnesota State University Moorhead Dragon swimming and diving team, qualified hit the qualifying mark for the NCAA DII National Championships on Saturday as she put up 265.6 points, taking first on the three-meter diving board to help aid her team over the Concordia Cobbers, 193-98.

Dugger, a native of Detroit Lakes, took a first place finish on the three meter board for the second night in a row, after placing first on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards against Minnesota Morris on Friday night. She hit the NCAA DII Championships qualifying mark by 0.6 points on Saturday. She also finished second on the 1-meter board on Saturday with 235.35 points. Beth Pollock took the top spot on the 1-meter board as she scored 245.55 points.

Also swimming strong for the Dragons was Olivia Martin as she put up a top time in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:29.34. She also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:27.91.

Other top finishes included the team score were: Amanda Walters, 200-yard freestyle (2:08.67); Angela McCollam, 200-yard butterfly (2:36.57); Kyle Potter, 50-yard freestyle (27:08); Katelyn Roepke, 100-yard freestyle (58.74) and 100-yard butterfly (1:08.37); Kelli Nadeau, 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.13); Megan Rieland, 500-yard freestyle (5:44.86); and Kyja Penning, 200-yard indivdual medley (2:29.39).

MSU Moorhead and Concordia will combine to host the Dragon-Cobber Invite this upcoming weekend, Jan 21-22. Friday's events will begin at 6 p.m.
