MOORHEAD, Minn. - St. Cloud State's Taylor Witt put up 25 points to help the Huskies to a 76-64 win over the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team on Saturday evening at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
The Huskies jumped to an early nine point lead in the first eight minutes of play with Witt scoring ten of of the Huskies first 18 points. Witt would finish the night with 25 points, going 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
The Dragons would make a run to cut the Huskies lead to three, but couldn't hold on to the momentum as they went into intermission down by eight, 38-30.
At the beginning of the second half, the Huskies would push their lead to 15 and never looked back. The Dragons would fight back to within nine points with three minutes left to play, but a strong SCSU defensive performance solidified the win.
DJ Hamilton led all Dragons with a career-high 20 points, scoring 11 points in the second half.
Dennis Williamson contributed 12 points and seven boards.
The Dragons move to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Huskies now sit at 10-7 overall and 9-4 in the conference.
MSU Moorhead will return home on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. to host Minnesota-Crookston at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast live on Midco Sports Network, channel 26 or 27 in the region on Midcontinent cable service.
