MOORHEAD, Minn. – For the second consecutive afternoon, the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon women's basketball team started their game slow on the offensive side of the court, but could not overcome the lead that the Northern State Wolves posted in the first few minutes of the game as they suffered their fifth loss of the season, 60-46, at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse on Sunday.
The Dragons, slow on offense, shot just 26.7 percent in the game, going 16-for-60 from the field. It was the lowest shooting percentage the team has posted this season. MSUM shot just 10.5 percent (2-of-19) from behind the arc after they went 10-for-26 against Mary on Saturday.
The team continued to be strong on the boards as they managed to out-rebound the Wolves, 34-30, grabbing 17 rebounds on each offense and defense.
The Wolves were strong from the field as they shot 47.7 percent, hitting 21-of-44 attempts. They were led by Krista Rabenberg with 14 points, going 6-fo-8 from the field and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
Northern State went up 8-2 in the first five minutes of the game and never relinquished the lead as the Dragons cut the lead to four but a 6-0 run at the 18:40 mark in the second half solidified the win for the visitors.
Haley Thomforde led the Dragons with 11 points and three rebounds.
Angie Jetvig posted ten points while
Jenna Van Dyke, making her first start of the season, had nine points.
The Dragons will return to action on Friday, Jan. 14 as they will go on the road to Fayette, Iowa, to face the Upper Iowa Peacocks at 6 p.m.
