Vikings Strike Early, Topple Dragons 35-3 in NSIC Renunion

Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. Augustana College struck early and often to secure a 23-0 lead and cruised to a 35-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over Minnesota State Moorhead in a Saturday matinee at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Augustana grabbed a quick 7-0 lead on a 65-yard, five-play scoring drive. Dajon Newell put the finishing touches on the march with a 16-yard run, and minutes later Drew Behrens hiked the margin to 10-0 with a 32-yard field goal.  Newell would score again on a three-yard run and Grant Gebhardt grabbed a 27-yard scoring strike from Viking quarterback Josh Hanson to expand the lead to 23-0 after one period.

Hanson found Isaac Jorgenson with a nine-yard touchdown pass to build the margin to 29-0 at the break. Wes Kramer spoiled the Viking shutout bid with a 37-yard field goal, but Augustana would add at 22 -yard TD pass from Hanson to Gebhardt to close the day's scoring.

Hanson completed 11 of 18 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns and Newell reached the 100-yard rushing plateau for a fourth time with 164 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries. Kevin Koch completed 13 of 31 passes for 86 yards while E'boni Lucious-West rushed for a club high 58 yards on 11 attempts for MSUM.

Jeff Schuette and Travis Davidson had eight tackles each for the Dragons while Ross Peterson topped the Viking defensive chart with nine stops.

MSU Moorhead, 2-6 overall and 1-6 in the NSIC, begins a two-game league homestand against University of Mary (N.D.) next Saturday at Alex Nemzek Stadium.
