Dragon Volleyball Splits Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon Volleyball team fell to the Upper Iowa University Peacocks tonight in a hard fought battle at home 1-3 (25-9, 27-29, 15-25, 23-25).

Despite tonight's loss, the Dragons proved why they are ranked No. 3 in the nation for digs per set as the totaled 94, 23.5 per set, digs as a team on the night.

Leading the team was junior defensive specialist Katy Ness with 28 digs. Behind Ness was freshman defensive specialist Sam Reilly with 16 digs, junior outside hitter Heidi Lensing was next with 15 digs, and junior setter Anna Olson and sophomore defensive specialist Angie Waller both added 14 digs.

The Dragons were lead offensively by the Papa Johns Player of the Game, Meredith Egeland. The junior middle blocker put down 10 kills and teamed up for six block assists.

Other key offensive players were Olson with 35 assists and four block assists, Lensing with 11 kills, freshman outside hitter Annie Palmquist with nine kills, and freshman hitters Maggie Gruber and Morgan Gradishar added eight and seven kills respectively.

The Dragons (11-11, 9-6 NSIC) are set to travel to Marshall, Minn. On Tuesday Nov. 1 to take on nationally ranked No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State University at 7 p.m.
