Dragon Basketball Kicks Off Season at Home

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. – Both of the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon women's and men's basketball teams are scheduled to open their home seasons on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. against the Valley City State University Vikings.

The Dragon women are coming into their home opener with only one pregame under their belt. On Oct. 30, the Dragons traveled to Brookings, S.D. where they battled the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State University. The Jacks took the game 85-52. The Dragons were lead in scoring by senior standout Angie Jetvig with 23 points.

After losing only two seniors last year, head coach Karla Nelson has a very optimistic feel about this year. "It's a game we have been waiting for, we need to prove to ourselves how good we are," said Nelson. "I've never been more exicted to open a season."

The men open their season after going 1-1 in preseason play. They defeated North Dakota State University in an exciting exhibition game on Nov. 1, 90-84 after a double overtime battle. Two days later the men also traveled to SDSU, but after a close game the Jackrabbits pulled out a 77-64 win over the Dragons.

The Dragon men also have many returning players after only losing one senior last year. Head coach Chad Walthall is ready to the get the season underway. “The players have practiced and worked hard up to this point,” says Walthall, “were looking forward to getting the season started.”

Both teams face VCSU Tuesday night with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. and the men following at 8 p.m.
