MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon men's basketball team hosts their second game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. against the Mayville State University (N.D.) Comets.
The Dragon men are coming into the second game of the season 1-0. They defeated the Vikings of Valley City State University on Tuesday, Nov. 15 in Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse 80-65.
Junior forward
Jake Lindfors lead the team in scoring and rebounds with 22 points and nine boards. Behind Lindfors was senior guard
DJ Hamilton who added 19 points and three assists.
Senior guard
Jake Driscoll was a large contributor off the bench as he went 3-3 for field goals, 2-2 behind the 3-point arch, and 4-6 from the charity stripe, adding 12 total points. Junior forward
Alex Novak also added 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Mayville State University Comets (5-4) have already competed in nine games this season. They are on a one game win streak after defeating Trinity Bible College 93-59 on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Junior forward Gus Kueber paces the Comets. He leads the team with 16.8 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and 2.13 blocks per game. He is second on the team in steals with 12 on the year, and third in assists with 3.13 per game.
Junior guard Eric Shulstad is also a key player for the Comets as he follows behind Kueber with an average of 13.8 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game
Last season both teams met on Nov. 19 in Mayville, N.D. In a close battle, the Dragons took the game 77-73. After losing only one senior, the Dragons retain much of the talent from last year's team and look to repeat this victory.
However, last season the Comets did not boast powerhouse Gus Kueber. Kueber transferred to Mayville State after completing two seasons on the Lake Region State College men's basketball team.
The 6-7 forward will be a tough match up for MSUM forwards Lindfors and Novak.
