Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. - Northern State University scored on its first three possessions of the third quarter to seize control of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference showdown with Minnesota State University Moorhead and roll to a 42-21 victory at gusty Alex Nemzek Stadium on Saturday.
Freshman Jared Jacobson, in his first start as quarterback for the Wolves, produced 314 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. He rushed for 154 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries, and completed 13 of 19 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, both to Chris Morton. He guided the Wolves on scoring drives of 64, 60 and 49 yards in the third quarter as the NSU broke away from a narrow 21-14 halftime advantage.
Kevin Koch, making his final home start as quarterback for MSU Moorhead, completed 25 of 50 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns while
Kendall Hendon caught eight passes for 132 yards, including a 66-yard scoring strike from Koch in the fourth quarterback. Koch rushed for a five-yard TD to close the first half and tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to
Phil Herkenhoff for the Dragons' first score.
Safety
Tyler Brody was credited with 13 tackles, including five unassisted stops, for the Dragons while linebackers
Andrew Pittman (11) and
Jeff Schuette (10) combined for 20 tackles. Brody also had an interception.
MSU Moorhead fell to 2-8 overall and 1-8 in the NSIC. Northern State is 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC.
MSU Moorhead also waved goodbye to 18 seniors who made their final home appearances on Saturday, including noseguard
