| By:
Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon women's basketball team took home their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game after defeating the Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth 63-61.

After only three minutes of play the Dragons had jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over the Bulldogs. However, after six quick points, four from senior guard Courtney Doucette, the score was tied up again 8-8.

Once the Bulldogs were able to tie it at 8, both teams continued to bounce back and fourth with either teams lead never surpassing two points.

With 1:38 left in the first half, junior guard Kaycee Charette hit two free throws to put the Dragons up 23-22. After a Bulldog turnover, freshman forward Taylor Kraft sank a jumper and gave the Dragons a 25-22 lead at the half.

The start of the second half was explosive for MSUM. In the first seven minutes of the half the Dragons went on an 18-5 run to give them a 43-29 lead. However, this didn't stifle the Bulldogs fight.

Duluth came back with a 21- 10 run to make the score 53-50 in favor of the Dragons. With only five minutes left to play and a conference game on the line, both teams needed to step up to the plate.

The Bulldogs started to pull away once again and it looked as though the game might be over. Two made free throws and three three-pointers, against the Dragons pair of free throws and a layup, gave Duluth a 61-57 lead with two minutes left on the game clock.

MSU Moorhead was not ready to throw in the towel. Attacking the basket aggressively, forwards Morgan Zabel and Megan Strese both made it to the charity stripe and sank their free throws tying the game at 61.

Duluth tried desperately to regain the lead, but missed all four field goals they put up. With only 18 seconds of play left, senior guard, Brittany Mayclin, hit the go ahead basket for the Dragons, which the Bulldogs were not able to answer.

After falling to the Beavers of Bemidji State last night the Dragons spilt their NSIC opening weekend and move to a overall record of 3-2 for the season.

Tonight the Dragons were led by the Papa John's Player of the Game Angie Jetvig. The senior forward lead the team in scoring with 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Behind Jetvig, sophomore guard Haley Thomforde and Strese both added 10 points. Zabel was also a key contributor with nine total points and six rebounds.
