2010-11 DRAGON BASKETBALL
The Dragon women's basketball team ended the regular season with two close conference losses against top-teams in the league. They had been riding a four-game winning streak, which helped the team solidify an NSIC Tournament berth.
MSU Moorhead was ranked No.10 in the Feb. 24 regional poll, the first regional ranking of the season. The Dragons received votes in December and most of January in the WBCA/ESPN NCAA DII Top-25.
Anchoring the Dragon offense has been
Angie Jetvig, who is ranked 13th in the nation in scoring as she averages 19.6 points per game, which leads the league. She also ranks fourth in the league in rebounds (8.2) and blocked shots (1.35) per game.
NSIC POST-SEASON
The Dragons are one of eight teams in the league to play in the Sandford Health NSIC Tournament. It is the 12th year of the Conference Tournament, with the Dragons competing in every year since the Tournament's inception. Two other teams have also accomplished this feat (Wayne State (Neb.) and Winona State).
The team is 8-10 in the tournament under Head Coach
Karla Nelson, and 8-11 all-time in the NSIC post-season. The Wolves are 8-10 all-time in the NSIC playoffs, missing only one post-season conference tournament in 2009.
The lower seeds do not fare well in the NSIC tournament, going 18-59 (.234) in the 12 years of the tournament.
NORTHERN STATE WOLVES
The Wolves have had a fare season as they were 19-7 overall and 16-6 in the league, earning a No.2 seed in the NSIC Tournament. The team is on a three-game winning streak and has won 12 of their last 14 games.
The Wolves closed out the regular season with wins over St. Cloud State, Concordia St. Paul and U-Mary. All three games were on the road.
Junior Emily Becken was selected as NSU's Athlete of the Week on Feb. 24. Becken tied her career high point total of 23 and led the Wolves to a 70-67 victory over Concordia, St. Paul. Emily hit a free-throw with just a second remaining in regulation to help the Wolves to victory.
On Saturday, the Wolves took a 75-66 win over Mary, where Krista Rabenberg put up 23 points in the win. Jodi Reinschmidt went 9-18 from the field, with 19 points and seven rebounds.
THE SERIES
The Dragons were on the losing end of both meetings this season, as they lost 46-60 at home on Jan. 9 and lost a tight battle in Aberdeen, 67-64, on Feb. 4. The Dragons lead the all-time series 39-20.
