BISMARCK, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team were unable to stop the offensive duo of the University of Mary's Eric Erdmann and Anthony Moody Saturday night and suffer their eighth Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss of the season.
Dennis Williamson started the game strong for the Dragons inside the paint, scoring eight of the team's first 13 points in the game and pushing the Dragons to a three point lead at the 11 minute mark, 13-10.
Moody would tie the score on the ensuing possession with a three-pointer on the right wing to tie the score at 13 with 10:27 left in the half.
Just 15 seconds later,
Jake Driscoll would drain a three-ball of his own to retake a three point lead off an
Andrew VanHavermaet assist.
The back-and-fourth play would continue as Moody hit a three at the 9:09 mark to snatch the lead back for the Marauders 19-16.
The Dragons would come back to tie the score at 22 with 4:17 left in the half from a
Charlie Chapman jumper, and
DJ Hamilton would add another jumper with 1:04 remaining to give the Dragons a one point advantage, 27-28.
With only two seconds left till halftime, the Marauders' Jordan Wilhelm would finish on a leaning jumper to send his team into intermission up three, 31-28.
Erdmann would awaken in the second half, going on an 8-2 run all by himself to put the Marauders up 39-30 with 17:37 remaining.
U-Mary would continue to roll in the second half, taking their biggest lead of the game, 12 points, at the 10:20 mark on a Jalen Jaspers jump-shot.
On the next possession, Hamilton would pop a three-pointer to kick-off a quick 6-0 Dragon run to get within 6 points.
Moody would again hit a dagger three-pointer to raise the Marauder lead back up to nine with seven minutes remaining, 58-49.
Hamilton would hit another three with 5:58 left to bring the Dragons within seven, and
Alex Novak added a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to only five with just over four minutes left in the game.
The Dragons would still be within seven points after Chapman's jumper with :26 seconds left, but Moody and Wilhelm would connect on all their free throws to solidify the Marauder win 73-66.
The Dragons were led in scoring by
Tarell Clark's 15 points. Both Williamson and Chapman added 14 points from and Hamilton contributed 12.
For the Marauders, both Moody and Erdmann tallied 24 points to combine for 48 of the team's 73 points.
The loss drops the Dragon men to 11-9 overall and 8-8 in NSIC play.
The Dragons will return home for their next NSIC contest on Friday, Feb. 11 for the 'Go Pink with the Dragons' event to raise money for the Roger Maris Cancer Foundation. There will be a rock climbing wall, face painting, balloon animals, silent auction, 'Go Pink' t-shirts, the Red River Boys Choir, the FM Acro II and Acro Lites, the FM Derby Girls and a Dragons After Dark event following the men's game. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
