OORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon volleyball team defeated the St. Cloud State University Huskies 3-1 in game one of Homecoming 2011 weekend (25-21, 25-10, 21-25, 25-22).
The first match was tight from start the finish but the Dragons were able to edge out the Huskies 25-21. The Huskies came back with a vengeance after dropping the second set 25-10, and won the third set 25-22.
The Dragons were not shut down after dropping one set to the Huskies. Both teams fought hard to the finish but after a solo stuff block by junior middle hitter
Meredith Egeland gave MSUM the victory.
The Dragons were lead by freshman right side hitter
Maggie Gruber. Gruber slammed down 19 kills and two block assists for the Dragons. She was also named the Papa Johns Player of the Game.
Other notables for were Egeland with 14 kills and three block assists, junior setter
Anna Olson who posted 50 assists and 12 digs and junior outside hitter
Heidi Lensing who put down eight kills and 12 digs.

Morgan Gradishar and defensive specialist
Katy Ness also were also big contributors with 13 kills and 24 digs respectively.
The win tonight moves volleyballs record to 5-6 on the season and 3-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Dragons will take the court tomorrow at 4 p.m. against the national ranked No. 1 Concordia, St. Paul University Golden Bears.
