Strese, Jetvig, and Thomforde with Career Bests in Win over the Golden Bears

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Never trailing during the entire competition, the Dragons earned a 77-65 win over the Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears at the Gangelhoff Center. This win brings the Dragons to 4-8 in the NSIC, 7-9 overall, while the Golden Bears drop to 4-8 in the NSIC, 6-10 overall.

Megan Strese tallied a career-high 17 points, besting her previous record of 16. Kaycee Charette lobbed a pass down low, as Strese came off a back cut for a reverse layup. Strese shot 5-for-10 from the field, and went 7-for-7

Angie Jetvig's 16 rebounds tied her career high, with 13 rebounds coming in the first half. The Dragons outrebounded the Golden Bears 44-29 on the game.

Haley Thomforde tied a career best 14 points, as she sparked a run with an open three after coming off the bench. After driving the length of the floor and hitting a shot inside the free-throw line, Thomforde stole an errant pass and scored on a put-back for a 12-5 lead.

CU put together an 11-point run with four minutes remaining in regulation to cut MSUM's lead 75-63, as the Dragon's shooting went cold. Thomforde hit 3 of her 6 free throws, as the Dragons held off the Golden Bears for the win.

MSUM finished the game 27-for-55, 49.1%, from the field, 4-for-12, 33.3%, from three, and 19-for-26, 73.1%, from the free throw line.

CU shot 23-for-60, 38.3%, from the field, 7-for-21, 33.3%, from three, and 12-for-20, 60%, from the free throw line. The Golden Bears were led in scoring by Tierra Bender (12) and Anika Whiting (11).

The Dragons will try to win back-to-back games tomorrow night, as they travel to St. Cloud to play the Huskies at 4:00 pm.

Steve d'Eustachio's Stat of the Game: Megan Strese posted back-to-back double-doubles (13-10 and 17-10) last weekend versus Upper Iowa and Winona State. The last Dragon woman to post two double-doubles in a row was Alison Nash-Gerlach on Feb. 24 and Feb. 27, 2010 vs. Northern State and Minnesota Crookston. That same season, teammate Megan Rettke recorded back-to-back-to-back double-doubles on Jan. 2 (vs. SW Minn. St., 19-12), Jan. 3 (vs. Minn. St. Mankato, 20-12) and Jan. 9 (at Augustana, 24-15).
