Huskies Hand Dragons Third Straight Loss

| By:
Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Down by only one at the half, the 18th-ranked Dragons lost 77-56 to the 17th-ranked St. Cloud State University Huskies this Saturday at the Halenbeck Hall. The Dragons' loss drops them to 9-4 in the NSIC, 13-4 overall, while the Huskies improve to 11-2 in the NSIC, 15-2 overall.

SCSU started the game on an 8-2 run until the Dragons found their marks from three. Charlie Chapman, following up 44 percent three-point shooting from last night, hit the first three. Andrew VanHavermaet took one step to find the same spot and hit off a DJ Hamilton assist, and Jake Lindfors made a catch-and-shoot three for the first Dragon lead at 13-12.

The Dragons out-rebounded the Huskies 21-19 in the first half, but MSUM only converted 8 second-chance points on 7 offensive rebounds. SCSU held the rebounding edge for the game at 47-33.

Jake Lindfors hit a quick fade away jump shot to begin the second half. Lindfors, whose sore back limited his playing time in last night's competition, looked healthy as he scored 14 points playing 32 minutes.

The Dragons were able to take the lead just past the midway point of the second half off a VanHavermaet steal, as Hamilton converted a layup giving the Dragons a 36-34 lead. However, SCSU put together a nine-point run in just under two minutes for a 55-42 lead.

With just over seven minutes remaining, Jordan Riewer lobbed a pass to Chapman for a three, trimming the SCSU lead to 57-50. This would be the closest the Dragons would come for the remainder of the game, as SCSU mounted a 19-6 run to close out the game as the Dragons went almost four minutes without scoring.

The Huskies had two players with double-doubles: Mike Rostampour with 21 points, 15 rebounds and Tim Bergstraser with 11 points, 13 rebounds.

MSUM finished the game 19-for-54, 35.2 percent, from the field, 8-for-18, 44.4 percent, from three, and 10-for-18, 55.6 percent, from the free throw line. The Dragons were led in scoring by Chapman (15), Lindfors (14) and VanHavermaet (7).

SCSU shot 28-for-64, 43.8 percent, from the field, 7-for-15, 46.7 percent, from three, and 14-for-20, 70 percent, from the free throw line.

The Dragons will travel to Lysaker Gymnasium at the University of Minnesota, Crookston next Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
