Box Score BISMARCK, N.D. – Uncharacteristic three-point play from the 19th ranked Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team tarnishes their perfect record with a 72-51 loss. The University of Mary Marauders (3-10, 2-7 NSIC) handed the Dragons (11-1, 7-1 NSIC) loss number one Saturday in Bismarck, N.D.
The game's high scorers began the action, as Marauder forward Damon Smith and MSUM's
Jake Lindfors converted early layups. Two free-throws and two 3-pointers followed from the Dragons to tie the game at 10. MSUM put up 34 3-pointers on the day, one shy of a record 35 attempts set in 2002 against Mayville State, and only converted nine. The next six minutes provided forward
Alex Novak with three second-chance opportunities, but the Dragons failed to score during as Mary went on a 10-0 run. Novak, grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds, led the Dragons to 39 team rebounds, 18 offensive compared to Mary's 5.
MSUM struggled to score at times, allowing Mary two significant scoring runs.
Xavier Reed, coming off the bench, hit a jumper to end the drought and bring the Dragons to within eight points at 20-12. Five minutes passed before guard
DJ Hamilton hit the next shot for the Dragons to end a 12-0 run in favor of Mary. Hamtilton's second three of the game brought the deficit to within 20 and sparked a 10-0 run of their own to end the half.
Alex Novak sank one free-throw to end the half and set the score at 32-22, Marauders
Marauder forward Alex Dorr scored the first points of the second half, by putting down a layup and a 3-point shot.

Jake Lindfors took over the next four minutes by scoring the next 10 points for the Dragons to bring them within 14 points, 50-36. Guard
Charlie Chapman hit a three at the 10:57 mark to bring the Dragons to their closest deficit on the day at 54-41.
Turnovers and failed shot opportunities over the next six minutes from MSUM allowed Mary to extend their lead to 24 points, the biggest lead of the game at 66-42. Forward
Eric Olson scored the last basket for the Dragons with one minute and 54 seconds remaining in the game. The Dragons shot their second lowest three-point percentage of the season with 26.5% and shot 4-21 for the second half.
MSUM finished the game 17-for-59, 28.8%, from the field, 9-for-34, 26.5%, from three and 8-for-13, 61.5%, from the free throw line. The Dragons were led in scoring by Lindfors (17), followed by Hamilton (12) and Chapman (8).
Mary shot 28-for-52, 53.8%, from the field, 12-for-18, 66.7%, from three and 4-for-6, 66.7%, from the free throwline. The Marauders were led in scoring by Damon Smith (20), Alex Dorr (17) and Josh Turner (13).
