Jetvig Scores Game High 17 in Loss Saturday

| By:
Box Score BISMARCK, N.D. – Poor second half shooting doomed the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team to a 63-54 loss on Saturday. The University of Mary Marauders (10-3, 7-2 NSIC) handed the Dragons (4-8, 1-7 NSIC) their third road loss of the season in the McDowell Activity Center.

Forward Linda Murray started the game early with a basket in the paint for the Marauders. Soon after senior Angie Jetvig hit one of two free-throw shots to start scoring for the Dragons.  Despite the early scoring, both teams missed the next three shots from the field until sophomore Haley Thomforde gave MSUM their first lead at 3-2.

The Dragons built a lead of three points at the 14:49 mark until Katilynn Haag narrowed the lead to one.  From that point, both teams took turns holding the lead for nearly five minutes.  Angie Jetvig outscored the Marauders 7-1 over a three minute span to give MSUM the biggest lead they would hold at 19-15.  Ali Collins answered Jetvig with an offensive put back that sparked a 16-5 run to end the half, 31-23.

Jetvig again scored the first points of the half thanks to an offensive rebound and assist from sophomore Morgan Zabel to put the score at 31-25.  Opportunities arose for the Dragons in the forms of steals and rebounds but they could not convert over the next seven minutes.  MSUM missed nine field goal attempts before junior Marissa Yernatich knocked down a three-pointer, the team's second field goal of the half.

Kaycee Charette and Brittany Mayclin hit free throws to cut the score to 43-35 with eight minutes to go in the game.  Yernatich soon followed with her second three-pointer of the game. An 8-1 run was kick started from the Yernatich three and was capped by a Jetvig drive to the hoop.  The Dragons could not erase the one point deficit at the five minute mark as a turnover led to a dagger in the form of a three-pointer via Kayla Schmidt.  Late fouling and free-throw shooting paved the way for a 63-54 final in favor of the Marauders.

MSUM finished the game 16-for-62, 25.8%, from the field, 6-for-21, 28.6%, from three, and 16-for-24, 66.7%, from the free throw line. The Dragons were led in scoring by Jetvig (17), followed by Yernatich (13), and Thomforde (8).

SMSU shot 20-for-65, 30.8%, from the field, 5-for-24, 20.8%, from three, and 18-for-26, 69.2%, from the free throw line. The Mavericks were led in scoring by Kaitlyn Haag (16), Ali Collins (15), and Linda Murray (13).

The Dragons try to end their six-game skid on the road tomorrow, playing the Northern State Wolves in Aberdeen, S.D., at 2 p.m.
