MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team built a two-set lead, but Northern State rallied to win the final three in a 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 31-29, 15-11 win over the Dragons in NSIC action Tuesday night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn. The Dragons fell to 12-9 overall and 4-8 in the NSIC, while Northern improved to 12-8 overall and 7-5 in the league.

Annie Palmquist had a career-high 22 kills, while sophomore

Meredith Egeland had 11 kills and five block assists for the Dragons.
MSUM hit .187 for the match, compared to .162 for the Wolves.
In the first set, MSUM was down 12-6 before scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 15-13 lead. Senior
Heidi Lensing served six straight points during that run. Northern closed within 19-18 but the Dragons weathered the storm, scoring six of the final nine points to earn a 25-21 win. Palmquist, Gruber and Lensing had kills during the final stretch.
The second set was close as well, as things were tied at 20-20. However, a pair of Northern errors gave the Dragons a 22-20 lead, and Palmquist followed with a kill to make it 23-20. After that, back-to-back kills from VanWinkle and Palmquist finished off a 25-20 win for MSUM.
The Dragons had the lead late in the third set, at 21-20 after a Palmquist kill, but Northern rallied late to earn a 25-22 win.
The marathon fourth set featured 15 ties and 11 lead changes. The Dragons had match point on three occasions but were unable to finish the set as Northern prevailed, 31-29.
The Wolves jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set and the Dragons got as close as 10-7 after a kill by
Amanda Feils, but got no closer as Northern earned a 15-11 win.
MSUM is back at home Friday to face Augustana for a 7 p.m. match.
