Erin Nyberg had a goal and an assist to help the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team earn a 2-0 win over Minnesota-Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday in Crookston, Minn. MSUM improved to 3-8-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NSIC, while UMC fell to 2-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the league.
Nyberg led the Dragons with three shots on the game, including two on goal. Junior
Amanda Wurdeman scored the Dragons' first goal, which proved to be the gamewinner. Freshman goalkeeper
Ashley Leintz picked up her second shutout of the season in net, recording one save to keep the Golden Eagles off of the scoreboard.
The first half ended in a 0-0 scoreless tie. Just 1:23 into the second half, Wurdeman scored off of an assist from Nyberg, giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead.
MSUM's lead grew to 2-0 about four minutes later when Nyberg scored an unassisted goal.
From there, the Dragons were able to preserve the lead as they earned their third victory of 2012.
Next action for MSUM is Oct. 13 at Sioux Falls.
The Dragons are at seven conference points through nine games. They trail eighth-place Mary by five points for the final spot in the NSIC tournament.
