MSUM Men Look to Extend Unbeaten Start Against Valley City State

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team (4-0) will play host to Valley City State on Tuesday night at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minn.

The Dragons are coming off of a 13-point win at Concordia-Moorhead.

MSUM and Valley City State will meet for a 98th time, with the Dragons holding a 61-36 series lead. MSUM won 80-65 last year at Alex Nemzek Hall.

About MSUM
The Dragons improved their record to 4-0 with a 70-57 win over neighboring rival Concordia-Moorhead on Nov. 20. Senior Anthony Tucker led the Dragons with 24 points, while senior forward Alex Novak added 14 and sophomore guard Jordan Riewer added 11.

Tucker leads the Dragons at 22.0 points per game, while Novak is at 13.5. Novak leads at 7.5 rebounds, while Tucker leads with 20 assists. Tucker is shooting 60 percent from the field and from  three-point range (12-of-20) while Novak is shooting 66.7 percent from the field.  Riewer leads with six steals, while Novak leads with four blocks.

The Dragons average 80.5 points per game and allow 62.8. MSUM is shooting 53.6 from the field while allowing opponents to shoot just 39.7 percent

Chad Walthall is in his third season at MSUM with a record of 40-22 at the school.

About Valley City State
Valley City State is 5-2 on the season. The Vikings split a pair of games last weekend in Dickinson, N.D., falling to Rocky Mountain College, 83-78 but beat Dickinson State, 79-65.

Sekani Milligen leads VCSU at 19.1 points per game, followed by A.J. McDonald at 13.7 and Gus Kueber at 13. Aaron Duske averages 10.7 points per contest for the Vikings.  

Jeff Kaminsky is in his eighth season as the VCSU head coach with a record of 117-96 at the school.

Climbing the Charts
Senior Alex Novak is at 872 career points, just 128 away from 1,000, and is also at 790 rebounds, which is third all-time and just 231 away from the all-time school record.  Novak is also the school's all-time record holder with 177 blocks.

Preseason Poll
The Dragons were picked to win the NSIC North Division in the preseason coaches poll and were picked to finish fifth overall in the league.
