MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team (5-0) makes its first trip into Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday when it plays at Northern State. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, S.D.

The Dragons are coming off of a 79-66 win over Valley City State on Tuesday, while Northern State (3-2) beat Dickinson State, 74-64 in its last action on Nov. 18. The Wolves will face Carleton College on Wednesday night.

MSUM and Northern State will meet for a 95th time, with the Wolves leading the all-time series 61-33. The Dragons swept both meetings a year ago, winning 81-74 in Aberdeen before earning a 66-60 win in Moorhead.  In 2010-11, the two teams split the two meetings.

About MSUM
The Dragons moved their record to 5-0 with a 79-66 win over Valley City State on Tuesday night. Senior Anthony Tucker set career highs of 31 points and 12 rebounds in the win for MSUM, while senior forward Alex Novak added 18 points and nine rebounds.

Tucker leads the Dragons at 23.8 points per game, while Novak is at 14.4. Novak leads at 7.8 rebounds, while Tucker leads with 25 assists. Tucker is shooting 58.5 percent from the field and 56 percent three-point range (14-of-25) while Novak is shooting 71.1 percent from the field.  Tucker and sophomore Jordan Riewer each lead with six steals, while Novak leads with six blocks.

The Dragons average 80.2 points per game and allow 63.4. MSUM is shooting 52.5 from the field while allowing opponents to shoot just 39.7 percent.

Chad Walthall is in his third season at MSUM with a record of 41-22 at the school.

About Northern State
Northern State is 3-2 on the year; the Wolves faced Carleton on Wednesday night. The Wolves have won three straight after two losses to open the season.

The Wolves are led in scoring by Michael Emge, who is at 11.2 points per game, while Collin Pryor is at 10.8 points per game. Six different Northern players average 7.8 points per game or more.

Northern scores 71.4 points per game and shooting 48.5 percent from the field. The Wolves allow 68.2 points per game and outrebound their opponents 34.2-31.0.

Paul Sather is in his third season as Northern's head coach with a record of 28-29 at the school.

Climbing the Charts
Senior Alex Novak is at 890 career points, just 110 away from 1,000, and is also at 799 rebounds, which is third all-time and just 222 away from the all-time school record.  Novak is also the school's all-time record holder with 179 blocks.

The Dragons were picked to win the NSIC North Division in the preseason coaches poll and were picked to finish fifth overall in the league.
