Marisa Yernatich and junior
Megan Strese each poured in 19 points to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team to a hard-fought 67-64 overtime win over Valley City State in nonconference action in Valley City, N.D.
MSUM improved to 1-0 on the season.
Strese added eight rebounds and Yernatich seven for MSUM. Junior
Morgan Zabel had a solid game off the bench with 13 points and two steals.
The Dragons overcame 29 turnovers thanks to 42.9 percent shooting (21-of-49) and a 20-of-25 effort from the free-throw line.
MSUM trailed by as many as 11 in the first half but battled back to within six at halftime. In the overtime, the game was tied at 59-59 before a Yernatich three-point play made it 62-59 with three minutes left.
Valley City State came back to tie the game at 62-62, but two Strese free throws made it 64-62 with one minute left. Moments later, Zabel drained a jumper to make it 66-62 to help the Dragons secure the win.

Kaycee Charette added five points and three assists. Junior
Haley Thomforde had six points off the bench.
MSUM hosts Minnesota-Morris on Nov. 16 to open its 2012-13 home season.
