MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon swimming and diving team is in back in Nemzek pool to host a double dual at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Northern State University and Minnesota State University Mankato.
The Wolves and Mavericks both are fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals.
This is the second face-off between the Wolves and the Dragons for the season. The Dragons took a commanding defeat, 171-80, over Northern State in a dual on Oc.t 12.
In the Dragons last completion, the Rochester Invitational on Dec. 1 and 2, in Rochester, Minn., the team finished fourth out of eight teams with 819 points, despite having their seeded projected much lower.
Many Dragons set lifetime bests at the meet, and one Dragon school record was broken. Junior
Jenna Thompson put her name in the books for the Dragons with her record-breaking time of 24.08 in the 50 free. Thompson also set a lifetime best in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.89.
Freshman
Jackie Woods continues to make great strides in her first year as a Dragon. Woods set a person best in the 100 breaststroke, breaking the freshman record set last by Ann Gusewell. Woods' time of 1:05.61 in the 10
th fast time posted in Division II this season.
The Dragon divers finished strong for the team as well.
Shayna Dugger finished thirds on the one-meter and fourth on the three-meter.
Kelsey Jandro was not far behind Dugger with a fifth place finish on the three-meter and a sixth place finish on the one-meter.
Following the double-dual, the team will take a break from regular season competition and travel to Florida for the winter training trip, Jan. 2 through 12. While on the trip, the Dragons will compete in the Tampa Relays on Jan. 5 in Tampa, Fla.
When the team returns from Florida, they will host the Dragon Invite on Jan. 18 and 19.
