Jetvig’s Record Night Propels Dragons into the Playoffs

| By:
Box Score FAYETTE, Iowa – The Dragons make the NSIC playoffs for the thirteenth year in a row with a 97-57 win over Upper Iowa University this Saturday night in the Dorman Gymnasium. This win improves the Dragons to 14-11 overall, 11-9 in the NSIC, while the Peacocks drop to 4-21 overall, 4-17 in the NSIC.

Senior forward Angie Jetvig tied a career-high scoring mark with 31 and reached another career high with 18 rebounds. Jetvig was one rebound shy of the double-double mark at the end of the half, with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

The fluidity of the Dragons' offense reflected all the elements that defined this team during their seven-game winning streak: patient offense with multiple passes, strong shooting and dominance on the boards.

A strong start set the pace for the Dragons' success, as MSUM set the pace within the first 10 minutes of the competition. UIU tied the game at 2-2, the Dragons went on an 8-1 run, started by Brittany Mayclin finding Kaycee Charette for the open basket. This run was capped off by Jetvig running the length and scoring the open layup.

As UIU put together a small run at the half-way point of the first half, Morgan Zabel scored five points in thirty seconds to help the Dragons pull away. Zabel finished the game with 11 points.

The second half saw the Dragons continue to pull away from the Peacocks. UIU switched to a trap defense, however the Dragons showed patience as they moved the ball up the court. Indicative of the half, Thomforde worked her way to the top of the key finding Charette in the corner, who lobbed a perfect pass out of the trap to Jetvig who was wide open under the basket for the layup.

MSUM finished the game 32-for-64, 50%, from the field, 5-for-16, 31%, from three, and 28-for-37, 76%, from the free throw line. The Dragons were led in scoring by Jetvig (31), Megan Strese (19) and Zabel (11).

UIU shot 15-for-55, 31%, from the field, 4-for-14, 29%, from three, and 19-for-30, 63%, from the free throw line. The Peacocks were led in scoring by Whitney Kieffer (13) and Jeri Jacobson (13).

The Dragons come back home next weekend for the final home games of the regular season with Augustana on Friday (6 p.m.) and Wayne State on Saturday (4 p.m.).

Steve d'Eustachio's Stat of the Game: Angie Jetvig recorded her tenth double-double of the season. In her previous three years at MSUM, she recorded a total of ten double-doubles.
