NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's track and field team continues to climb the USATFCCA poll in week five. The Dragons are currently ranked 16th, behind fellow Northern Sun team Minnesota State in 15th.
Junior Laquone Robinson finished first in the NSIC heptathlon last weekend in Bemidji, Minn. Robinson placed first in three of the seven events in his victory. He won the 60m dash with a time of 7.07, the 60m hurdles with a 8.27 and the long jump with a leap of 7.02m. Robinson, who is currently No. 4 in the nation in the event, was also named last week's NSIC Indoor Men's Field Athlete of the Week and will compete for the national title.
The men's team won three events at the Beaver Twilight meet Thursday, Feb. 16. Prentice Dervin won the 60m dash with a time of 7.12. With a jump of 1.99m, Austin Dennis won the high jump while Nate Cole claimed the long jump with a leap of 6.34m.
The Dragons 4 x 400m relay ran a 3:14.85 race, to rank 5th in the nation, as they won the Snowshoe Invite at the University of Minnesota. The relay team is made up of Derek Bredy, Lincoln Arnold, Ryan Olson and Aaron Lund.
The Dragon men currently have qualified 11 athletes in 11 events for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships March 9 and 10 in Mankato, Minn.
The men will continue with competition Feb. 24 and 25 at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn.
