MOORHEAD, Minn. – High finishes from two Minnesota State University Moorhead track athletes earned them MSUM Athlete of the Week honors. Laquone Robinson placed first at the NSIC Multi-Championships in Bemidji, Minn. while Anna VanWechel placed third in the one-mile run at the Iowa State Classic.
Robinson finished first in the NSIC heptathlon on Feb. 24 for the second straight year. He placed first in three of the seven events, giving him the overall victory. He won the 60m dash with a time of 7.07, the 60m hurdles with a 8.27 and the long jump with a leap of 7.02m. Robinson finished the high jump and the pole vault with heights on 1.85m and 4.10m, respectively. He posted a time of 3:01.07 in the 1000m and had a toss of 10.63m in the shot put.
VanWechel competed at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 11. She finished in third place in the one-mile run with a time of 4:48.13, only three seconds behind the first place winner from Nebraska. Her time of 4:48.13 in the one-mile qualified her for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships by over two seconds. The qualifying time for the one-mile is 4:51.90.
Robinson, who is currently No. 4 in the nation, will make a run at a NSIC title and a national title in the heptathlon. He will compete at the NSIC Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25 in Mankato, Minn. and the NCAA DII Indoor Championships March 9-10, also in Mankato.
VanWenchel will compete in the NSIC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25, followed by the NCAA DII Indoor Championships March 9-10.
