Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – Angie Jetvig tallied her eighth double-double of the season in MSUM's 58-47 win over the Northern State University Wolves this Friday night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. This win brings the Dragons to 10-9 overall, 7-8 in the NSIC, while the Wolves drop to 12-10 overall, 7-9 in the NSIC.
“I just think Angie is getting better as the year progresses,” said Coach
Karla Nelson about Jetvig's 14 points and 12 rebounds. “The one reason I say that is because she is sharing the basketball. She's not just scoring or rebounding, but she is getting some assists and that involved everybody.”
After falling behind 14-8 to start the game,
Taylor Kraft found
Megan Strese open for a layup to start a Dragon run.
Kaycee Charette found herself open in the corner for a three, and the first Dragon lead at 15-14.
MSUM built a 21-point lead during the second half, predicated upon solid defense. The Dragons held the Wolves scoreless in the first four minutes, during which NSU shot 0-for-4 from the field, 0-for-3 from three, and had 2 turnovers.
“I just think defensively we are playing better, our guard play is better, and we are playing better as a team. I think those three things are big keys,” said Coach Nelson about the strong team play.
Strese's strong play off the bench continued into the second half, as she finished the game with 11 points. “Megan is just doing a great job block to block, and certainly every once and a while she is going to hit that 15 to 17 footer,” commented Coach Nelson. “She's rebounding the basketball, she's scoring the ball, and she's doing a great job in her role coming off the bench.”
MSUM finished the game 19-for-47, 40.4%, from the field, 2-for-11, 18.2%, from three, and 18-for-22, 81.8%, from the free throw line.
NSU shot 19-for-57, 33.3%, from the field, 4-for-18, 22.2%, from three, and 5-for-8, 62.5%, from the free throw line. The Wolves were led by Mikayla Barondeau's double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds).
The Dragons host the University of Mary tomorrow night at Alex Nemzek fieldhouse at 4:00 pm.
