Dragon Soccer Loses 2 OT Heartbreaker to Upper Iowa

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team lost another tough contest Saturday at home, falling to Upper Iowa, 3-2, in double overtime at the MSUM Soccer Field in Moorhead, Minn. MSUM fell to 2-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the NSIC, while Upper Iowa improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC.
The Dragons played tough in their annual Homecoming contest, which was also Parents' Day. They got goals from senior Carly Lengstorf and freshman Anna Hulteng in the game. Junior goalkeeper Carole Brayschayko had eight saves in net for MSUM.

Upper Iowa scored early, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:23 into the contest. However, Lengstorf found the back of te net at the 33:24 mark to tie the game at 1-1, which was the halftime score.

The Dragons took a 2-1 lead at the 69:38 mark when Hulteng scored, unassisted. The game stayed that way until the 84:01 mark when Corrine Wronski scored for Upper Iowa to tie the game at 2-2.

Neither team scored in the first overtime, and Kali Loescher's goal at the 106:28 mark of the second overtime proved to be the gamewinner.

Upper Iowa had a slight 14-10 edge in shots.

MSUM wraps up the weekend against Winona State for a 1 p.m. game Sunday in Moorhead.
