ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to eight with a 79-64 win over Concordia St. Paul in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

Alex Novak surpassed 1,000 points for his MSUM career. He entered the game needing eight points and finished Friday's contest with another double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds. He is the 26th Dragon player to surpass the mark for his career.
MSUM improved to 13-1 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC with the win, while Concordia fell to 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the league. The Dragons are tied for first in the NSIC overall with No. 11-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato, which beat Northern State 83-76 on Friday to move to 7-1 in the league. The two teams will meet with first place on the line on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.

Anthony Tucker led MSUM with 29 points and three assists. He was 5-of-10 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the line. Novak had 12 points and 12 rebounds and two blocks, while freshman
Tyler Vaughan had 12 points. Sophomore
Jordan Riewer had 11 points while senior
Eric Olson had 10 rebounds and a team-high three blocks for MSUM.
The Dragons were down 12-4 just 4:11 into the game but a 30-10 run over the next 10 minutes proved to be the turning point. That turned an eight-point deficit into a 34-22 lead. Six different Dragons scored during that run, led by Tucker with 10 points and Riewer with eight.
MSUM took a 36-28 lead into halftime. Tucker, Novak and Riewer combined for 26 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Concordia crept within 46-40 with 13:06 left, but a 12-6 run over the next three-plus minutes helped give the Dragons breathing room at 58-46. Vaughan sparked the charge with two 3-pointers, while Riewer and freshman
Ben Figini had three points each.
The Golden Bears climbed within 65-55 with 4:21 left, but back-to-back threes from Tucker put the game out of reach as the Dragons extended the advantage to 71-55 on their way to the 15-point win.
Figini finished with six points off the bench for MSUM.
MSUM and Mankato will face off at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Note: Tucker is just 10 points away from 1,000 points for collegiate career.
Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Dating back to the 2003 season, when Northern State won the NSIC, every champion with the exception of Bemidji State in 2011-12 had a conference winning streak of at least seven in a row. The Dragons won their seventh NSIC game in a row on Friday.
