MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team wraps up a brief three-game homestand with games against the University of Sioux Falls on Friday (8 p.m. tipoff) and Southwest Minnesota State (6 p.m.) on Saturday.
The Dragons (13-3, 7-3 NSIC) lost their second straight game, a 79-64 home contest to Northern State on Tuesday, which ended an eight-game winning streak at Alex Nemzek Hall. Sioux Falls is 7-7 overall and 3-7 in the league after rallying to beat SMSU, 67-65 on Tuesday. SMSU is 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference after the loss.
MSUM and Sioux Falls will meet for sixth time, with MSUM holding a 4-1 lead in the series. The two teams have not met since 1992-93. The Dragons and Mustangs will meet for a 95th time, with MSUM holding a 54-40 edge. The two teams met three times a year ago, including once in the NSIC tournament final (SMSU won 76-72) and in the NCAA tournament (82-66 MSUM win). The Dragons won the regular-season meeting, 75-67 on Jan. 3, 2012.

Tucker leads the Dragons at 20.8 points per game, a mark that is tied for 18th in all of Division II. He also leads the team in three-pointers (42) and assists (66). He is also shooting an impressive 88.5 percent (69-of-78) from the free-throw line. Senior
Alex Novak is having a solid year at 12.3 points and a team-best 8.6 rebounds per game. He also leads with 26 blocks. Sophomore
Jordan Riewer averages 11.3 points per game for the Dragons, who average 75.8 points per game as a team and allow 66.0. MSUM shoots 48.8 percent from the field.
Chad Walthall is in his third season at MSUM with a record of 49-25 at the school.
About Sioux Falls
The Cougars, new to the NSIC this year, are 7-7 overall and 3-7 in the NSIC. They are coming off of a 67-65 win over SMSU on Tuesday. In that game, Sioux Falls trailed by 15 with nine minutes left before rallying for the win. Bill Freeman and Bryan Kielpinski had 13 points each in the win.
Three USF players average in double figures, led by James Rader at 11.6 points per game. Derek Brown averages 10.6 points per game while A.J. Holland averages 10.4. David Maxwell leads the team at 4.2 rebounds per game, while Holland leads in assists (37). Brown has a team-best 27 steals. As a team, USF scores 65.2 points per game and allows 63.1.
Chris Johnson is in his fifth year as Cougar head coach with a record of 96-51 at the school.
About SMSU
The Mustangs, who were picked to finish second in the NSIC in the preseason coaches poll, are 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the league. SMSU lost to Sioux Falls, 67-65 despite 15 points from Vinard Birch.
Senior Jordan Miller leads SMSU at 15.3 points per game, while junior Nick Smith is at 12.6 points per game and leads the Mustangs at 7.1 rebounds per game. Birch leads with 51 assists, while Smith has 23 blocks. Tramel Barnes leads at 31 steals. SMSU averages 72 points per game and allows 71.1 per contest; the Mustangs shoot 49 percent from the field.
Brad Bigler is in his fourth season as SMSU's head coach with a record of 56-46 at the school.
Climbing the Charts
Senior
Alex Novak is at 1,015 career points; he became the 26th Dragon player to surpass 1,000 for his MSUM career in the Dragons' win at Concordia. He is also at 901 rebounds and is the school's all-time record holder with 199 blocks. Novak is also second all-time in the NSIC in career rebounds with 675; he trails all-time leader Gus Johnson of Winona State (819 rebounds) by 144 for that mark.
Tucker also surpassed 1,000 points for his college basketball career at Mankato and is at 1,023 points for his career, which includes time at Iowa and Winona State.

The Dragons were picked to win the NSIC North Division in the preseason coaches poll and were picked to finish fifth overall in the league.
